Entertainments evening 21 February 2018

Beulah Brass holds an entertainment evening twice a year giving members an opportunity to not only socialise with other members but also giving them the opportunity to play a solo, duet, quartet etc for other members to enjoy. The recent entertainments evening held on the 21st of February 2018 saw more members than ever wishing to participate and play a piece of music on stage!

In particular it was lovely to see the training band represented strongly with a number of our beginners playing solos and duets. The pieces chosen represented a wide range of styles of music ranging from classical pieces, film music, hymns, and traditional brass band pieces.

All in all it was a lovely evening and the standard of musicianship was very high. I have to give special mentions to both Elizabeth and Julie, both of which have only been learning to play brass instruments for a short time and who both overcame their performance nerves and played excellently.

I did hear it commented however that the highlight of the evening was the buffet and indeed it was indeed very scrummy!

Beulah Brass at the North Wales Brass Band Association Solo, Duet & Quartet/Quintet Championships 2018

Several Members of Beulah Brass this year again attended and played at the North Wales Brass Band Association Solo, Duet and Quartet/Quintet Championships held on the 8th of February 2018 at the Galeri in Caernarfon.

Playing a solo is no easy thing to do, playing a solo for a young player, as a beginner, in public, at a competition, is a massive challenge and one that one of our learner players, Adam, met head on and thoroughly enjoyed. Adam played very well on the day indeed and both he and his mentor David Kent were very pleased indeed with Adams 6th position. Well done Adam.

If you fancy learning to play brass, come along on a Wednesday at 6.30 pm and Dave and Martin will be happy to add you to the class.

Beulah Brass Annual General Meeting

Beulah Brass held its Annual General Meeting at St Pauls in Abergele on the of January 2018. The meeting was ably chaired by our vice chairman David Gozzard as our chairman, David Woodward was once again absent travelling in warmer climates as he has a constant need to feel the warmth of the sun on his skin and it isn't very warm at all in Abergele in January!

Amongst the items on the Agenda was the resignation from the position of Treasurer by Allen Hughes after serving in the position for many years for which we are very grateful indeed (although we get the impression that his lovely wife Pam did most of the work)  Following a vote from the floor it was decided that Susan Kent would take on the role of Treasurer which she gladly accepted.

It was proposed by Susan that Martin Moyse take on the role of PR Officer for the band as this was a role currently undertaken by the band's secretary Mary Wallace, who already has a huge workload within the band so this would lighten her load somewhat. The meeting went very well indeed thanks to the chairing skills of David Gozzard and ended with various presentations of flowers including one lovely bunch to Diane Duck who comes along to most rehearsals and makes the bands coffee and tea for our half time break.
